Some people do it just because they think it might be fun, and they don’t think they’ll get addicted (“It could never happen to me!”). Others do it because they’re looking for an escape.

As content as this man might have seemed on the surface, he may have been deeply depressed — and he may have put so much pressure on himself to live up to his ideals and the image he’d created of himself that he didn’t feel he could open up to anyone about it.

People start using drugs for various reasons. Its hard to understand what drives people to self medicate with illicite drugs. There are many people you would never think use drugs recreationly, and they do. Many times it is a friend or aquaintence who introduces others to drugs after trying them. A person who uses drugs goes through various phases in their drug use and it is not uncommon for some to use cocaine lifelong with no problem other than financial and some episodes of manic behaviour. There is no gain in using drugs for recrational purposes it is a personel preference. Just as some can drink without being a sloppy drunk, getting D.U.I.’s, and becoming homeless, some can use drugs.
